December 9 update: Thanks to the support of donors and volunteers, the lights are coming back on for Christmas in Williams Park. Township of Langley Mayor Jack Froese will be at the park at 5pm on December 11 to turn the switch on! The lights will come back on every night after that until December 21 from 5 to 9pm.
Admission to the park is free but you can show your appreciation by making a donation to this campaign, which will continue to raise money to add more lights and make Christmas even brighter in years to come.
Thank you!
Original story: Don’t let the Grinch steal a much-loved Christmas tradition in Langley!
The Christmas in Williams Park Society recently discovered that more than $10,000 of decorations had been stolen, the second major theft in as many years. The Society thought it had no choice other than cancel this time-honoured celebration of light. It was a tough decision. Every year since 1991, the Society’s volunteers have been adorning Williams Park with thousands of lights, inflatables, cut-outs and other decorations that transform the natural space into a winter wonderland for everyone in Langley to enjoy. Driving through the park to marvel at the displays is a tradition enjoyed by thousands of people of all ages.
The Society, the Langley Advance and many others are calling on everyone to help it “save Christmas.” If we can raise enough money in this crowdfunding campaign, the Society’s volunteers are willing to put in the extra hours to turn the lights back on. Maybe we can get Santa by for opening night!"
Funds raised in this campaign will be used to buy new lights and, it’s hoped, find a more secure place to store the decorations.
Please help us turn the Christmas lights back on in Williams Park this Christmas!
Kore Irrigation and Lighting has kindly agreed to set aside a 4 x 8 area at their property to receive donated outdoor LED lights. Their address is 19140 28th Avenue. They are open from 7:30 to 5:30 Monday to Fridays. You can also drop off outdoor LED lights or outdoor extension cords at the Langley Advance office, 6375 202nd St. during regular business hours.
If you'd like to volunteer or help in any other way, please either write a comment on this campaign page or email christmasinwilliamspark@shaw.ca.
