JerseyGirls AnimalRescue hasn't added a story.
Darla & Spanky are brother and sister who were found on the side of a road in GA. JerseyGirls Animal Rescue rescued them from the man who found them, had them vaccinated, and transported to NJ. They were in a foster home initially and were adopted during their first week here. When we found out how bonded they were, we asked the potential adopters if they would consider adopting them together; he answered with an enthusiastic yes! This was music to our ears, as these 2 puppies sleep on top of each other and clearly adore each other. Of course, upon meeting the puppies, the potential adopters fell in love at first sight. They promptly went out and bought 2 of everything: crates, collars, leashes, bowls, toys, etc and their puppies were delivered on Thanksgiving Day. What a happy day for all involved!!
Then just a few days later, Spanky had diarrhea and didn't want to eat. It was thought to be the introduction of new food to their diet, and the addition of a little white rice & chicken seemed to help. During their routine first checkup with their new vet the next day, this was mentioned to the vet. A fecal exam was done and it was determined that both puppies somehow contracted the Parvovirus. For anyone who isn't familiar with this horrible virus, it is extremely serious and can be fatal in puppies. Treatment is very expensive for one puppy, let alone two!
Both Darla & Spanky (now named Amelia & Winston) are currently hospitalized and their adopters, a sweet, young couple who have been shopping for their first house, are faced with thousands in vet bills for their new "babies," JGAR has every intention of helping with these vet bills, but we are always low on funding and rely solely on donations.
The good news is that the prognosis is good for both puppies because the virus was caught very early and treatment begun. We are still praying and hope you will join us in prayer for these two beautiful babies who were blessed to be adopted together. If you can also find it in your heart (as long as your wallet agrees) to help with a donation of ANY AMOUNT towards the growing vet bills for these two sweet peas, your help will be greatly appreciated. We realize this is a tough time of year for most people, but we also feel that the best holiday gift we can give this couple and their babies is to bring them home healthy and happy....
Thank you for reading our story. I hope you can help us to help this young family.
