Four years ago, our family started building a small home with a simple dream — to give our son a safe space where he could grow, feel calm, and be himself.
Our son is 8 years old. He has severe autism and intellectual disability. He experiences the world very differently, and everyday life can be overwhelming for him. He needs space, quiet, routine, and a sensory-friendly environment to feel safe.
At that time, we sold our small apartment and invested everything we had into building a house. We believed we would finish it within a year and finally create a home that could meet our son’s special needs — including a small sensory room and a yard where he could move freely and safely.
But life changed suddenly and unexpectedly. Our source of income disappeared, and everything stopped.
Since then, four long years have passed.
Today, the three of us live in my mother’s home in a tiny 12 m² room. We all sleep in the same bed. There is no space for our son to move, play, calm down, or regulate his emotions. The constant lack of space has become very difficult for all of us — especially for him. Children with severe autism need room to move, a predictable environment, and a quiet space to retreat when the world becomes too much.
Our unfinished house stands waiting. Over the years we have slowly continued building whenever we could afford even the smallest step. The walls are up, but the house still needs essential things: heating, floors, plumbing, stairs, interior finishing, and basic furniture.
We are trying to do everything ourselves, but at this pace it may take many more years. Meanwhile, our son continues growing up without the space he desperately needs.
We are asking for help to finish our home so our son can finally have a place where he feels safe — a small sensory room designed just for him, and a yard where he can run, breathe, and experience the world without constant stress.
Any support, no matter how small, brings us one step closer to giving our child the environment he needs to live and grow with dignity.
