Mateusz Kostka hasn't added a story.
I was born on November 4th, 2003 in a small village near Wrocław, Poland. For the first 18 years of my life, I endured psychological and physical abuse on a near daily basis, from the people that were supposed to be my family. Aside from one of my grandmothers, for a long time I had no one who would treat me like a human being.
My whole living situation made me very introverted and scared of interacting with others. Whenever I had any chance for free time, I would either sit alone in my room, playing some games or escaping into the internet, looking for why my life is the way it is, different from what I heard is a norm. If spending time like that was not possible or situation at home would become too drastic, I would go for long walks, contemplating what to do, or if there was even anything that could be done. Later in middle school, despite my social anxiety, I was able to find two friends who would keep me company, which made me feel a bit better about life . Not long after reaching the age of 18, unfortunately, my parents found out I was not heterosexual, which in my conservative family, was considered one of the worst things that can be. This began a string of very stressful events, failed escape from home, more abuse, forcibly cutting my contact with everyone. The only thing keeping me alive was contact with my friends using an old phone I had hidden from everyone, as I had previously anticipated it would help me one day. After some time, I was able to find an opportunity to escape, and with the help of my friends, I managed to quickly move out and live on my own, renting a room in a dingy apartment and working in retail while attending school.
Unfortunately, this wasn’t an end to my problems. My family started to regularly stalk, text/call, harass, threaten, and follow me around. One time, they also tried to kidnap me. When they found out where I worked, they started to come into my work and got me fired by causing a scene. They also found where I lived shortly after, and tried to get into my room after being let into the house by one of the flatmates. This whole experience made me extremely paranoid, feeling like my parents might be following me every time I leave the house.
I wasn’t the only target of my family. Upon finding out a friend is helping me, they harassed him and his family, to the point of physical altercation and violent threats. The incidents were reported to police, but in the end nothing came out of it.
Despite everything that happened, I am still here. I still want to get out of this, not only for myself but also for my boyfriend and my friends . I don’t want my past, severe depression, anxiety and PTSD to get in the way any more. I just want to live a normal life.
Unfortunately, just because I survived does not mean I’m doing well. Ever since I lost that job, I had trouble to find another stable one. I basically worked whatever jobs there were available, got taken advantage of and almost scammed and was not accepted anywhere since January of this year, despite a few interviews. I had no choice but to borrow money each month from my friend and his parents to be able to rent a room and eat anything that I could buy for the least amount of money.
I’m making this fundraiser because nobody around me has enough spare money to help me any more. For half a year, everyday I kept looking for any job, and aside from a couple of interviews that went nowhere, I had no luck. I’m not planning on giving up, I will continue the job searching everyday for as long as I have to, but I need money to pay for the rent and food.
It’s very hard for me to keep going like this any longer. During these 6 months without a job I tried to end my life, but my friends and boyfriend managed to stop me. I don’t want to keep worrying them with my situation.
I didn’t know what amount I should set as the goal of the fundraiser, since I might find a job either in few weeks or several months. Overall, the raised money will go towards the rent, food, medical expenses (if needed) and just giving me more time to find a job and become self-sufficient once again without having to constantly stress about having enough money each month. I usually need about 2000 PLN/ZŁ (around $500) every month to afford rent and food. Whatever amount I’m going to get, it will tremendously help. I also want to make it clear, that I’m going to be very responsible with the money, no matter the amount. When I find a job, the remaining funds will be used towards my mental health (therapy, psychiatrist). I will not use the fundraised money to pay back the loans I took from my friend and his parents, those loans will be paid with the money I’ll earn from work.
As much as I’m scared to ask for help, I see no other choice. I was trying to make things right for the past 2 years since I left my parents’ house, but a lot of the things that happened were outside my control. This situation is too much for me as it is currently. I’m also worried my family might find this page but I’m really out of options. I’m not sure how successful this fundraiser will be, but any help is appreciated. I’m grateful to every person who will help with achieving this goal of living a normal life either by donating or sharing this fundraiser. Thank you for taking your time to read this.
