The POWER (People Organizing for Women's Empowerment & Rights)
House is located in Montgomery, Alabama, next to the city's only
abortion clinic, one of 3 operating in the state.
We serve as a community space for women, LGBTQ+ persons, and
other marginalized groups. In addition to being the base of
operations for volunteer clinic escorts, we allow women who are
increasingly coming from many hours away to stay at the house free of
charge for their appointments. On clinic day, we allow children to
stay at the house with patient's companions if they are unable to find childcare.
We are the ONLY group in the United States that is able to
provide services like this to women visiting a clinic that just
happens to be next door. And we do it in a deep red state! We are
able to do this with help from people like you. We receive no funding
from the clinic, and no funding from any major prochoice
organizations. None of our volunteers or clinic escorts are paid.
All money raised goes into the rent fund ($500/mo) and for general
upkeep of the house (cleaning supplies, toilet paper, etc).
