Sam and Cat hasn't added a story.
The teachers and pupils of Kazemba School, Zambia need help in raising funds to make improvements to the village school. The school has just over 300 pupils, many of them single or double orphans, who need support to progress to secondary school.
The University of St Andrews has worked with the people of Kazemba for five years now, and every summer a group of staff and students live and work in the village for six weeks. The pupils' ability to reach their potential is hampered by insufficient equipment and resources.
In addition to the University's Volunteer Zambia, which is both a student experience project for St Andrews students and a literacy project in Kazemba, the team leaders, Cat and Sam, are seeking to raise funds independently so as to provide further assistance to Kazemba School. The 5 priorities below are our personal goals and unconnected with the University's Project.
The money we raise will be spent on 5 priorities:
1. A new roof
for the grade 4 classroom (£220)
2. New batteries to give the
school electricity (£1,400)
3. A mobile science lab to allow the
children to do science practicals (£510)
4. Laptops to allow the
children to study IT (£1200)
5. Secondary school fees for
three grade 9 children (£1609)
The funds raised will be delivered when staff and students next visit Kazemba in June/July 2016 and the equipment will arrive in the School in time for next year's exams. Please use the comments box on the donation form to specify any preferences in terms of the above.
