Story Update.......
So unfortunately my health has been deterioting the past few weeks hence the lack of posting :( . I have been diagnosed with a Lung Disorder which affects how I breathe and makes breathing extra hard for me as the tubes to my lungs are narrower than an average person, so I'm not getting the right amount of Oxygen I need for my lungs. Upon having hospital appointments and another follow up in May the Doctors have advised me against climbing Kilimanjaro in July as the lack of oxygen as I climb up the mountain does get thinner and thinner which would make it extremley difficult for me to breathe and could end in emergency treatment needed which would be hard when your at the top of a mountain.
So unfortunately I have been told by doctors that such a trip at this time and possibly in the future may not be possible and quite dangerous for me. I'm extremley devastated to not be going and for my 30th Birthday aswell I was truly looking forward to achieving a dream I have had for awhile now.
So for everyone who has already donated of course your money will still be going to WAG and I will still be climbing a mountain in July its just going to be here in Whistler. I will be hiking up Garibaldi Provincial Lake to the Panorama Ridge, its not quite the Kilimanjaro I was hoping for but it will still be a challenge for me,me and my crappy lungs.I mean if I'm going to suck at anything in life it may as well be breathing right. Thank You to everyone who has donated already and I will still be taking donations and doing some bake sales soon its all going to a wonderful cause! Thanks Everyone so far and I'm truly devastated.
A little about myself......
Hi my name is Sarah Davies and I currently reside in Whistler, BC, Canada. I work at the Alpenglow Lodge on the Front Desk and have been living in the wonderful world of Whistler for the past 2 and a half years.Originally I'm from the land of the Beatles and Liver Birds, oh and hair rollers very important can't forget those :) (Liverpool,UK) but after coming to Canada on a 2 year visa have found it is a home away from home and plan to stay forever (if they will have me and my rollers ;)).
My original plan was to climb Kilimanjaro which is in Tanzania,Africa which stands at a massive 5,895 metres above sea level, on my own next July 2016 as I will be turning the big 3-0 (21 again in my head) and it has also been a lifelong dream of mine to complete this epic hike. Plus it will be THE best hangover present ever and I won't even mind the altitude sickness, I've had all my 20's to prepare for that part! After extensive research (mainly googling and You Tubing to the annoyance of my partner :) ) I decided that this is going to be a pretty big life changing challenge for me and why not do this for a cause that I hold dear to my heart.
Joking aside, now time to get serious.........
The charity I'am going to be climbing Kilimanjaro for is my local animal shelter WAG. Every year WAG takes in Dogs, Cats, Puppies and Kittens that are in desperate need of Emergency Medical Care. Many of these animals that arrive at WAG have suffered from abuse, injury, starvation and neglect. WAG is a non-profit, registered charity that cares for and re-homes hundreds of animals each year into their Forever Homes.
The Staff at WAG do an amazing job looking after the animals and supporting them with the love and attention they so desperately need and deserve. Now you can help too with that love and support.
I myself have 3 wonderful dogs at home (Plus a budgie called Billy and a Goldfish called Bob, case of the B's there) Coco is my crazy chocolate labrador, Nugget is my springer spaniel and yes he does resemble a bar of nugget hence the name, and Holly the Teacup Yorkie who is now a little old lady, but still keeps the other two in check might I add. (See profile picture above for the famous trio).Anybody who owns an animal or is an animal lover like myself will know that you spoil them rotten and treat them like your children and buy them the best doggy items there are because they love you unconditionally no matter what and they are your family.
I want to help share this love to the animals of WAG who unfortunately unlike my 3 or yours, have had a rough start in life and have not been treated and spoiled as they should have been by their previous owners. Unlike humans, animals can not voice their opinions or ask for help when they truly need it. What they do is offer unconditional love and support to humans who need it and never falter or judge you,no matter what they have been put through, they just love you. Many dogs are aides for people who are visually impaired, hearing impaired or like my self (I suffer with that funny ole thing called depression), a companion who pulled me through one of the toughest years of my life by simply giving me cuddles, licks to the face and spooning with me in bed (by this I mean lying all over my face whilst sleeping)
So here it is...........
So now you have read my story (I hope it wasn't too long) and hopefully it is something you can relate too and a cause you would like to back. I would like to ask your help by contributing as much or as little money as you can so I can help WAG out as much as possible to cover some of their expenses and I know it will help greatly with the animals welfare and happiness. Your donations over the next 1 year will go towards only some of the things listed below and much more:
Critical Care Fund
Dog and Cat Food supplies
Toys and Bedding
Collars and leads
Medical supplies and First Aid Kits
This is just a few things that your donations will help out with. I will also be running a few charity events around Whistler in the next upcoming months like a Bake Sale, Yard Sale, Bag packing at the local supermarkets, Used Book Sale and much more. I will also be making hand made bracelats to support my cause and I will definitely be taking mine to the top of Kilimanjaro with me!Even donations of Hiking Gear or Air Miles will be greatly appreciated and will help me cover the costs of the climb or even dog/cat toys anything is a bonus. If you can't donate money please share my Links to all your friends and family and post it even in your staff room of your place of work anything to help get the word out is a donation in my eyes.
I will also be posting pictures, updates, training posts,WAG updates on all their animals and stories and news on my Facebook Page over the next 1 year so make sure you like the page and visit often, and the wonderful company,Climbing Kilimanjaro, who I will be climbing Kilimajaro with will be offering me the use of their Real-Time Tracking Service so all you wonderful donators can follow my progress next year as I descend up and eventually down this magnificent mountain.
Thank You for taking the time to read my post and I appreciate all the help you can give. Please feel free to message me on Facebook as I will be happy to hear from all of you. Thanks again for the support and donations, hopefully I can be the first scouser with her rollers to climb Kilimanjaro, wish me luck (I think I will need it, time to put down the Mars Bars I think:) )
Kind Regards,
Sarah & her Trio xxx
