#Fight Like a Girl

This has been Tara Astgen's mantra since discovering she had stage 4 brain cancer this past summer.  In honor of Tara and her strength and grace, we are starting a running group to raise funds for her and her family.  Here is her story:

After the birth of her second daughter in the Summer of 2014, Tara Agsten began having horrible headaches.  After a month of this, she decided to see a doctor.  At first he thought it might be spinal headaches from the epidural but after talking with a few other doctors, they were not sure that that was the case.

The CT scan revealed a large mass on her right frontal lobe. She was immediately rushed Froedtert Hospital where she had a couple of MRIs and it was determined that this large tumor would need to be removed because of the pressure it was causing on her brain.

The pathology results showed that she had a Glioblastoma tumor and Brain Cancer. This type of tumor has 4 grades with a Grade 4 being the most aggressive. Tara's tumor was a Grade 4 and is incurable. Even if she goes into remission, it will come back.

This devastating news would be a shock to anyone, much less when you are a young mother and wife.  But Tara decided to take a fighting stance against cancer!  Throughout the surgeries and chemotherapy, Tara has kept her positive nature intact. She stays strong so she can focus on her favorite role as mother.

Her treatment consists of chemotherapy in a pill form and radiation. This is a lot for this family to process. They have been nothing but positive and thankful.

Tara has many supporters and friends who have benefited from her bright smile and positivity.  I, Tara's former college roommate, created this fundraiser to raise money to support her and her beautiful family during this incredibly tough time.  With that said, a group of us are forming "Team Tara" and we are going to be running various races throughout 2015 in honor of Tara and her fighting spirit! Please consider donating and god bless!
