Our Story
My mother Mária, and I Márk, currently live in a rented apartment in the 13th district of Budapest.
Since the passing of my stepfather in 2021—who was a great source of support and helped raise me—our lives have been severely impacted. His unexpected loss meant not only the cost of the funeral but also a complete reorganization of our financial stability. We are now also burdened with managing the loans he owed to the bank.
My believed mother, Mária, is 62 and is desperately trying to find work to help, but her health is deteriorating rapidly, making her unable to maintain a job. She has been struggling with vision issues since she was young, but this never stopped her from raising us. Now, however, she is 90% blind and has also been diagnosed with a slipped disc. This has severely limited her mobility; she needs assistance with basic daily tasks such as walking, attending doctor's appointments, grocery shopping, and sometimes even cooking.
I am the sole person able to work and cover our expenses, and honestly, we are struggling immensely. While I know others face worse situations, I live in constant fear of not being able to cover our rent and essential living costs. I work constantly, yet I also need to be present to care for my mother. Her ongoing medical treatments require me to accompany her to appointments, which often means I lose a day's wages—a significant financial setback that I must make up for. Her current treatment is also very expensive. Despite working several jobs and doing everything I can, I am exhausted and truly afraid we are on the verge of losing everything.
Our Financial Situation
Our monthly mandatory expenses illustrate our dire situation:

Rent: 190,000 HUF/month

Mother's Treatment & Medication (for blood pressure, digestion, kidney, liver): Currently 160,000 HUF/month (This treatment is expected to last for another 2–4 months, depending on her condition.)

Stepfather's Loan Repayments: 100,000–170,000 HUF/month (The amount varies based on my monthly income, and sometimes I am unable to make the payment, as my earnings are often insufficient to cover all these necessities.)
I also have an autoimmune condition (Gilbert's syndrome) that requires a specific, healthy diet and supplements, which adds to our costs.
