Allow me to introduce myself.  My name is Brenda Dryden.  I am a 72 year old young at heart Senior on a fixed income.  I receive $2300.00 a month from the government (CPP - Canada Pension Plan & OAS - Old Age Security with GIS - Guaranteed Income Supplement) to pay my rent, my bills (telephone and internet), buy food and grocery items as well as cat food and litter. Also, I am paying off a huge debt through an OPD contract over the next five years. Needless to say I don’t bring in enough to make it through one month.  I do the very best I can; but it’s just not good enough. When your incoming doesn’t exceed your outgoing nothing you do is good enough.  I am short on my rent and have no money for the rest of the month.

I lost my life savings of $98,000.00 through a heart scam and have not been able to recover from that.  When I couldn’t pay my rent anymore I had to go to a government subsidized 504 sq. foot apartment. I’m very grateful to have shelter and have made it my home for the past three years.

I needed to sell my car because I couldn’t afford gas or insurance.  I only got $4,000.00 for it.  I have missed that most of all.  My mom has Alzheimer’s and the facility she is in is on the other side of the city. 

With the physical issues that plague my body, sometimes I feel there is no hope…. BUT I know while there is breath there is always hope.
