Title: Save Our Home – Urgent Help Needed! ✨ COMPLETE YAY!🎉
Header: Eviction Notice
Dear Friends, Family, and Kind Strangers,
My name is Adele Michaels, and I'm reaching out to you today in a time of urgent need. My family and I are facing a critical situation and we desperately need your help to stay afloat.
Our Story:
In the past year, our lives have been turned upside down. My mom suffered a severe stroke, leaving her unable to work or live independently. We've been doing our best to manage, but now we've hit rock bottom. We've been served with an eviction notice and are at risk of losing the only roof over our heads.
After 30 years of reliable SSI support, my payments suddenly stopped, leaving us scrambling to make ends meet. As we plan to start door-dashing, our truck breaks down, and on top of that, my husband Mike, who has neuropathy, suffers a severe foot burn that costs him his job delivering newspapers. With our finances in shambles, I turn to fundraising to fix the truck, and after a tense few days, we finally get the part. Watching Mike repair the truck, I’m clinging to hope—hoping we can start earning, hoping we can pay rent, and hoping we can keep going despite everything life’s thrown at us. For full details, see the story under the second line break bar.
What We Need:
-
$760 for rent: ✨
Just $80 to go! YAY!🎉
! Thank You! This will cover the overdue
rent and help us avoid eviction.
- DONE (YAY!) $60 for truck repair: This amount will hopefully get our truck back on the road, providing the bolts come free.
- DONE Thank You! $100 for startup gas: We need something to sustain us as we get started. Update! We are awaiting background check now. The due date was August 11th and 16th, but now it’s been pushed to August 18th to 23rd.
Why We Need Your Help:
We are at our wit's end. With no family nearby and no other means of support, we are reaching out to the kindness of strangers and our community. Every donation, no matter how small, will bring us one step closer to stability.
How You Can Help:
- Donate: Any amount will make a difference and help us reach our goal.
- Share: Please share our campaign with your network. The more people who see our story, the better our chances of getting the help we need.
Closing:
Your generosity and support mean the world to us. We are incredibly grateful for any assistance you can provide in our time of need. Together, we can overcome this hurdle and find a path forward.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Warm regards,
Adele Michaels
P. S. I update this as we get donations and news, so stay tuned to this area if you want up to the minute information.
The Full Story:
Recently, my Social Security Income (SSI), which has supported me reliably for 30 years, was suddenly stopped without explanation. I've contacted them, and they're investigating, but it might take months to resolve. In the meantime, we plan to try door-dashing to earn money. After considering our options, this seems like the best way for us to sustain ourselves.
On top of that, my husband Mike burned his foot badly. He has neuropathy, and one day while on our paper route, his feet got cold. He turned the heat on high in the truck, and a few minutes later, his feet went numb. An hour later, as we were chatting with a customer, I glanced at his feet and saw a huge blister bubbling up on his toe. We finished the route and called the podiatrist, who set up an appointment for him. In the meantime, they advised us to go to the minor ER. Unfortunately, the blisters had almost doubled in size by then, and the ER staff basically told us to leave it alone.
We went home, and within hours, the blisters had doubled in size again, tearing the skin apart. Seeing Mike in severe pain, I called the doctor and informed him that I would lance the blisters. After taking pictures, I carefully did so, and the relief for Mike was immediate. I tended to his wounded foot, changing the bandage frequently as it became soaked. By the time his appointment came two days later, the dead skin had wrapped around to the ball of his foot.
The doctor gave us medicine and sent us home. Over the next month, most of it healed, leaving a scary black scab behind. He sent us to a few specialists since Mike is a diabetic and took no chances, pumping him full of antibiotics and creams. Mike lost his job delivering newspapers because the injury made him later and later, and we had to ask for gas cards because of the frequent visits to the doctor. The doctor made sure we got the best medicine called Santyl, derived from a plant that heals from the inside out. He scored the scab, and we continued applying it every day. The scab came off two weeks later to reveal healthy flesh. We are still applying a mixture of Santyl and an antibacterial to this day.
On the 26th, my SSI came in around 2 pm. I use PayPal, and they have a lovely week direct deposit advance. At three, I tried to pay the cable bill. Nothing. Payment rejected. I stared, then grabbed my phone to check my balance. $5.46 stared back at me. I checked the transactions. SSI deposited, then 30 minutes later, SSI deducted. My hands shook as I called them. After what seemed like an eternity, I got someone on the line. An hour later, I hung up, frustrated and confused. They had no idea what happened. They are investigating as I write this. But now I have no money.
Five days ago, as we decided to door dash, the truck started making a huge racket from the front wheel. When we got home, we pulled it off to find that the CV joint boot had broken, but the joint itself was undamaged. Normally, CV joints click when you turn to show they are bad. We put it back together. The next day, as we were coming home from the gas station, talking about door-dashing, the truck lurched and the wheel started shaking. We got off the main road and limped home. Once there, we pulled it off again to see the tire hanging like a drunken sailor. We knew at once what had happened.
The wheel bearing had broken. We pulled everything apart, hoping it wasn't pressed in, but no luck. We called around; it was $55 with tax at the local junkyard. I asked friends, but no one had it.
Then I thought about fundraising. GoFundMe came to mind, but the long delay of payments from last time frustrated me to no end. Then I thought of FundRazr. They are another crowdfunding platform that promises almost instant payments. I set it up, and here we are today. A few friends donated enough to get the part and tools we so desperately needed. After getting a local friend to run me to get the part, and slaving to pry it off, I am watching Mike put it on and back together. I feel a sense of hope. I hope we can doordash well. I hope we can get the $760 for rent. Man, I'm hoping a lot these days. Well, it's time to hang on to hope and not let go.
