Hello my name is Diana Russo, and I am raising funds as a volunteer with the Qhakaza High School in South Africa as part of the University of West England’s (UWE) Zulu project.
I have been selected to volunteer in the Zulu Project as part of my Postgraduate Certificate in Education degree. Through this project we are able to fundraise and volunteer to help enrich both the Qhakaza High School and UWE students. Please help us carry out our project!
About the project
Project Zulu is an educational exchange fundraising volunteering initiative. Since 2012 it has been offering the opportunity for UWE Bristol trainee teachers like myself to visit and teach in South Africa.
This project grants UWE teaching students and South African schools the opportunity to observe each other’s teaching techniques to learn, exchange and grow whilst also granting us visitors the chance to materially support the Qhakaza High School’s future through fundraising. We volunteers fundraise to partially cover our 2 week stay in South Africa and also on behalf of UWE. Our university sends all money raised through the Zulu Project directly to Qhakaza High School.
Supporting this project means offering invaluable resources for Qhakaza High School, giving the institution the chance to invest in the futures of thousands of young minds. Not only through our contributions as exchange volunteers but funding to invest in resources, teachers, and exciting new projects.

A little bit about me
I am a Colombian migrant woman, with over 30 years teaching experience. I've had the privilege to teach and be a part of hundreds of children's educational journeys in both Colombia and the UK.
I've had an uphill battle to work in the field I love since returning to the UK. These hurdles did not deter me, but rather motivated me to work hard and gain multiple qualifications to teach yet again. I have dedicated almost a decade to achieve different specialised teaching qualifications, including assisting children with multiple and complex disabilities.
Now I am currently completing my Postgraduate Certificate in Education with the University of West England.
I would be grateful for any and all contributions to this fund. Your support will significantly improve the learning experience of hundreds of students and also allow me to access an incredible amount of hands-on teaching experience.
