My name is Matt Kirschner, and 18 years ago, I spent my Christmas as a patient in the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, the left side of my body completely paralyzed thanks to a brain injury.

Every year since, I've gone back during the holidays to drop off toys for the children spending what's supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year in a hospital bed.

Christmas in the hospital, even a hospital as wonderful as CHOP, is a terribly lonely experience. I found happiness not only in friends and family, but in the simple Christmas gifts donated by strangers to the patients in the ICU. It's funny how the smallest token lifted my spirits incredibly, and I've long hoped it's done the same for whoever has received the gifts.

This is the sixth year I'm opening the toy drive online to friends, family, and coworkers.  Last year, your donations were incredibly generous, as we collected $240 in online donations alone (plus tons of toys donated in-person)! In the past five years, we have collected $970 online alone, along with tons of toys and in-person donations!

Please consider giving the gift of hope and caring to those kids who could use some hope this holiday season. If you'd like to donate in person, stop by South Brunswick Public Library and drop off your donation at the Children's Desk!

I'm planning to go back to CHOP to donate stuffed animals on or around Saturday, December 15th. If you would like to donate any amount, it would be a wonderful thing. Honestly, even a $1 donation can purchase a little toy that could make a family's Christmas morning a bit brighter.
