My name is Pamela Baye. I have 4 daughters, Angela, Ashley, Alyssa and Madison, and 5 grandchildren. My daughter, Alyssa, had a heart transplant on May 14th, 2001. That gift gave us nearly 10 more years to see her smile, sing, dance, and be happy.

She lived her life giving to others and spreading her joy. She is missed by many.

Grief is a crazy ride. Losing a child is one of the most difficult things I have ever gone through. But it has also taught me that no one should ever take a moment for granted.

I came across a story on Facebook about a little girl who was very sick and needed a heart transplant. I followed her through her journey and along the way there were more and more stories of babies/children who were born with heart defects. Some had open heart surgeries days after they were born. Some lived in the hospital for months, sometimes years. Some never came home at all.

I wanted to do something. I had lots of time but little to donate. So I started making hats. It seemed sorta silly at first. It was a fun way to keep busy. I'd make a few hats, send them to a few babies, maybe give these families a happy moment. I created a Facebook page called "Alyssa's Handmades" and started contacting families with heart babies.

The first hat I made was for that very first little girl who was now 2 years old and doing well. That little girl has over 25,000 followers. It was undescribable the feeling I had when her parents posted her picture to "Alyssa's Handmades" wearing the hat I made for her.

Her parents shared this page. Other heart families contacted me. We reached 161 likes in 11 days. We have mailed out 20 hats and have a waiting list of 11 more heart babies we need to make hats for.

All of this comes with a cost. These hats are 100% free of charge to these families of heart babies. But yarn and postage is costly. This is were I need your help. I want this to succeed. It has given me so much joy to give to these babies, and what a wonderful way to honor my daughter, Alyssa
