Why are we doing this? Its because Jack and JIll is a family. We are supposed to be there for the good and bad times. The devastation of fighting cancer only to turn around and have bran surgery is catastrophic. While this has taken an emotional and financial toll on Johnda and her family she continues to smile, be loving and always be there for everyone.
Johnda is a successful private practice lawyer who heartbrokenly had to scale her practice because of her illness. While she recovers we want to make sure she has just a little less to worry about and focus only on her recovery.
Let us tell you more about this wonderful woman:
Johnda D. Scott-Adams is a wife and mother of 2 beloved children and currently resides in Woodbridge, VA. Johnda and her husband Alfred Adams have been married over 17years and her son Jordan, a high school sophomore, is 15y and her daughter Addison Joy, a 3rd grader, is 8 years old. Johnda, a proud "Jersey girl", is a native of Trenton, NJ.
She completed her higher education at Douglass College at Rutgers University and law school at The George Washington University. Johnda met her husband while in law school in 1994 and they decided to make their home in Northern, Virginia. During and since graduating law school, Johnda has been very active in her community both professionally and socially and strives to keep her family active being an example of family philanthropy.
Johnda has been the Director of the Dance Ministry at her church since 2002, a member of Jack and Jill since 2004, serves in various copacities on organizations supporting the arts, participates in local and state bar associations, serves as a Board member of InClusion US, and more.
In Jack and Jill alone, since 2005, Johnda has served in many positions locally, regionally and nationally to include (but not limited to): 2 terms as chapter president, 4 terms as fundraising co-chair, 2 terms as vice-president (current position), regional nominating committee, national UTH committee, and national resolutions committee.
In 2013, while serving as chapter president and member of the regional nominating committee, Johnda was diagnosed with breast cancer. Johnda continued to serve in all roles within Jack and Jill and outside of Jack and Jill while undergoing chemotherapy treatment, followed by a mastectomy and subsequent post-cancer treatment.
In late-2014, Johnda's doctors discovered what turned out to be two tumors attached to the outside of her brain between the eyes that threatened her vision among other things. In the midst of preparing to undergo her recent surgery (surgery was on March 4th), Johnda continued to work, however this time with an eye towards dissolving her sole practioner law firm to prepare to spend time in recovery and attempt to save the quality of life for her children and family. Johnda's March 4th surgery was successful, however recovery is proving to be quite long and arduous. Johnda is expected to make a full recovery, but it is a painful process that will take some time before beginning to resume normal activity.
