Our little Ruca girl has been the highlight of our life since she joined our family 6 months ago. Mike and I had been waiting to get a dog for quite some time when we discovered Ruca. Her exuberant, happy, lovable personality captured me the moment I met her. Since that day she has brought so much joy and happiness to our lives. She truly is our little Ruca baby. Her outgoing spirit and gentle nature encompasses everyone who meets her.

            This past Saturday we experienced something no pet owner should ever have to watch. I was running a quick errand before we were going to take Ruca to her favorite dog park. As I pulled in the driveway, I heard Ruca’s high pitch cry from the corner of the house. As I ran around the scene I witnessed was horrible. The neighborhood mailman loves Ruca to death and always gives her treats when he sees her. After she accepted her treat from him, she noticed our neighbor was outside, who also spoils her with treats, so she ran over to say hello.  As my boyfriend saw her run over, he called her name for her to return to our yard. She did so immediately, but unfortunately the timing was horrible. A young driver driving double our local speed limit came barreling down the road and hit her. My neighbor yelled for me to get the car, as Mike scooped her in his arms and got in the car. I told the driver we did not have time to waste, but to leave his information in our mailbox or with our neighbor. Unfortunately, he declined to do either, got in his car, and left.

            We were very fortunate that our local vet happened to be open on this particular Saturday. Our vet stressed how even if minutes later; Ruca may have lost her life from shock. Her sacral iliac joint, which connects her pelvis to her spine, is dislocated, and she has a fractured hip socket.

            We want to give Ruca all the love and care she needs in order to be a healthy happy dog again, but are overwhelmed with the price of it all. The vet visit on the day of the accident was over $500 and the surgery plus initial blood work is estimated at over $2,000.

            With the holidays being near, I understand everyone is strapped on cash and may not be in a position to donate. We are greatly appreciative of any amount you can contribute to help alleviate some of the financial stress this horrible accident has put us in.
