Rachel Lloyd hasn't added a story.
In the summer of 2014, I spent four weeks in Arusha, Tanzania providing healthcare in a local hospital. I was also lucky enough to visit the Neema House Orphanage, which is run by a fantastic couple, Michael and Dorris Fortson. Their hard work has created a home full of happiness and laughter for vulnerable children.
Whilst working on the labour ward in Arusha, I discovered first-hand how difficult it can be to raise a child in Tanzania. Many of the mothers already had numerous children and it was not uncommon for them to have illnesses like HIV or malaria. Some babies were born with abnormalities, which would cost the family huge ammounts in healthcare, which they just could not afford.
Because of this, it is unfortunately, not uncommon for children to be abandoned or ophaned. One baby girl was brought to the hospital by the police after she was found at the side of a busy road. Neema (which means grace) is a safe haven for these children, with the aim to return them to their own families where possible.
In March 2015, I am doing a sky dive to raise money for these inspirational children. It costs approximately $300 (£180 GBP) a month to keep a child at Neema, so I will be grateful for any donations and i'm sure the children of Neema house will be too!
