¡Saludos!
Al momento, he gastado
Siempre he

Goal: 1,000 USD to purchase paint and materials.
Purpose: Elaborate mural on La Calle Elisa Cerra, Santurce Puerto Rico
¡Greetings! My name is Jonathan Ortiz and I’m “El Nuevo” (The new Guya) participating on the 5th Urban Art Mural Festival: Santurce es Ley.
Santurce is one of the most populated districts of the capital, populated with over 90,000 civilians, making it one of the principle areas of San Juan. All though it is a populated city, the local economy and other factors have left this area pretty deserted with the passing of time. The Art Festival “Santurce es Ley” gives different artist the opportunity to bring back to life the district's walls with original murals. These restorations give the opportunity for anyone to get lost in the beauty that decorate the streets. Making this space the cultural center.
Where’s the problem? Being the new guy, I do not get the “sponsored”
treatment that many of the recognised artist have. When I accepted the
invitation to participate, i had no idea what i was in fr cos wise. At
the moment I have spent over 600.00 dollars from my own pocket to
restore the wall itself. I’ve always heard artist say “Paint is
expensive” I now understand why.
Before
A couple of months ago, I was in graduate school studying Law. Even
though I survived first year of law school or “the hardest year of
your life” (like most law students call it) I noticed all of my books,
notebooks and notes had doodles and drawings in most pages. I’ve
always been an art lover, but I never studied art formally. This
summer I gave myself the opportunity to apply for Puerto Rico’s most
prestigious Art School, Escuela de Artes Plásticas in the Old San Juan, to see if I got in.
If I got in, I would pause my Law studies. On June, I was accepted and
the rest, as they say, was history. As Ruben Luciano’s apprentice, I got recommended to
participate in the Festival Santurce Es Ley 5.
After:
The expenses of paint, food and gasoline to get to the mural (45 minute drive from my home) have been estimated to be $1,500, but thanks to other local artist, I have been able to minimise the total cost to $1,000. Any donation, big or small, is more than welcomed. I ask in the most humble way I can for your cooperation. A little bit of love is all that is needed. I thank you for believing in me and helping the cause. It’s not every day you get to participate in something as big as this, thank you again for helping me make it. Funny thing is, this has all happened without a formal art education, ¿Can you imagine what will become of me after I finish Art School?
