I am setting up this page to help and spread the word of a dear friend who is in need. Marica Lane was injured falling down a half flight of stairs on the evening of January 21st. Ironically she was headed out to a "fitness rally" as she had just signed up for a health challenge with a group of friends. After being taken by ambulance to the ER and getting x-rays, Marica learned she had suffered multiple breaks that would require surgery. The weeks that followed showed a CT scan result of a Pilon fracture and after narrowly escaping 2 surgeries, Marica ended up with one surgery on Feb 1st. The surgery was successful but a very painful one and she spent 4 days in the hospital recovering.

Marica, an Esthetician, is a self-employed single mother of a 6 year old. Because Marica is self-employed, she is ineligible for disability insurance.
With a small savings she has paid out of pocket for expensive medical prescriptions and supplies. During the first two months she was in bed 24 hours per day, requiring her to have care for herself as well as her daughter. She gives a great amount of gratitude to the amazing community she lives in.

Here’s where we come in, as her road to recovery is hardly over. Anticipated homeowners insurance could take a very long time to come in or not at all and her expenses are piling up. Marica is in a cast for two more weeks and will soon graduate to a CAM boot but that is just the next step to her comfort level, she is still not able to bear weight. When the surgeon sees fit she will start physical therapy and slowly be able to bear weight. His prognosis for her to walk unassisted is not until late summer/early fall. Then and ONLY then can she resume her work as an Esthetician. We can help this woman whose clients, friends and family all know her to be of great strength, love, healing and compassion, so that now SHE may heal, as she can not wait to get back to the life that she loves . Marica needs to raise funds for her CAM boot, physical therapy and to relocate to a new home. Her present apartment has not only the steps she fell down in the back, but steep indoor steps to the front door, both requiring assistance from people to get her up and down them when she needs to get to appointments.

Marica wants to extend her deepest gratitude for the help received so far. Not only have close friends and family rallied around her, but she has been amazed at the generosity of her clients, friends, family as well as parents from her daughters school. From personal shopping and laundry to bringing over delicious food, she cannot thank everyone enough for all they have done for her. She tries of course, but I know her and she feels it is not near enough. She would never, ever consider asking for help herself, although if she was on the other end of the same situation would do everything she could to help out someone in need. In fact, I have been with her when she has done so. Which is exactly why I am doing this for her. Marica needs help, plain and simple and any little bit will help. Please, if you are financially able, help someone who with all good purposes, was struck with a bit of bad luck. Someone I am proud to say is one of my closest and dearest friends and who would certainly help if the situation was reversed.
