Hi, my name is Pamela, I’m 26 years old, and I want to share the story of my mom, Erica, who is 59. A couple of years ago, she was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia. 

In October of last year, she suffered a brain hemorrhage that left her hospitalized for a month, including several days in the ICU. She had to undergo two brain surgeries.

Before the hemorrhage, although she had Broca’s aphasia, my mom was still able to speak a little, walk around, and she loved to eat. After the hemorrhage, everything changed: she became bedridden, lost her ability to speak and walk, and now relies on a nasogastric feeding tube. In February, doctors also discovered she has vocal cord paralysis.

Although this journey has been incredibly tough, my sister and I continue to care for our mother with the same love and devotion that she always gave us.

Over the past months, we’ve organized raffles and taken out loans to cover her care, which is extremely expensive—medical supplies, at-home visits from health professionals, and many other things she now needs daily.

That’s why I decided to create this campaign. Our main goal is to help fund her ongoing care and, most urgently, to buy her a specialized neurological wheelchair, which we cannot afford with our current income.
