I am Chris Davies, I have been resident here for 14 years. This year with together with my partners AKUT and Indigo Beach Club we will organise the 14th Mouse Island Swim.
Ever looked at the list of cultural and sporting events that happen up the road in Kaş and wished that Kalkan could have some of that?
Well, last year we launched the first Kalkan Festival of Music and Dance. A one-day event hosted by Indigo. Watch the video and look at the selection of photographs to catch a flavour of what we achieved. It was brilliant!
FOR A FIRST TIME!
But this year wil be Year 2, so we have to raise the bar. This means putting everything on a more professional and sustainable footing.
- Better - a wider selection of acts, more varied stalls and food options
- More professional - a highly effective sound system mixed live by a sound engineer with great lighting and effects
Last year we had energy, enthusiasm but no budget. We begged, we borrowed (but we did not steal)
This year we have even more energy and enthusiasm but we must have a budget; to cover all the costs of looking after our artists, to be able to offer a modest payment to attract more artists and to help fund the technical solution.
I am delighted to say Ali of Kaptan Ali Dine and Dance Restaurant will provide a complete sound system with more stacks, mixers and sub woofers (me neither) than you can shake a stick at. We will be seeking support from other businesses too.
And we hope that some of you Friends, Lovers, Residents of Kalkan will put in also. All the proceeds from ticket sales (nearly 4,000 GBP last year) will go to the 2024 Mouse Island Swim Appeal to support local causes.
A donation of 30GBP will make you a Friend of the Festival. You will have the opportunity to buy tickets before the box office opens. And you will know that you are helping Kalkan develop as a resort.
