Tabitha Peters Wilkes hasn't added a story.
On 12/28/7 I became aware of a pitiful GP surviving in Rice Texas. We named him Atticus. Because there was a foster offer in Houston but no one able to go to Rice to catch the poor soul I volunteered. Once I was on the property I became aware of 1, 2, and now 3 more dogs in dire shape.
This pup, Petey, is the last survivor out of a litter of 4 (we think). The others and the mama were killed by bigger dogs roaming and looking for food. The pup has a head wound at the base of his skull and a skin condition.
This is the pups dad, Cowboy. He is timid and submissive and has a gimp back leg. There is another dog on the property, a black male I have not gotten a photo of him yet. He does not have any obvious wounds or injuries.
12/29/17 UPDATE! Atticus the GP has been caught and gone to the vet for basic treatment. He has mange, a damaged back leg, and was cracked over the skull with a wrench but should heal fine. He is only 1 year old to spite how pitiful he looks. He has gone to Houston for medical foster care. This photo shows him at the clinic with our amazing vet tech, Carlos.
This is Cowboy today licking my fingers. He is sweet and wants a safe, warm place to lay.
I did not see the pup today but am headed back out for another look.
We need fosters/rescue/medical assistance with these poor fellows. (The GP is covered.)
Thank you!- Tabitha (Navarro County Texas)
12/29/17 UPDATE- We caught the sweet midsize, brown and white male, Cowboy, today and he was driven to an experienced foster in Dallas. He may have a broken pelvis. You can see his odd stance a couple photos up.
12/30/17 UPDATE- we went back out this morning to try and catch the puppy. Wading through the mud and wet grass for 1/2 hours we sighted him but were unable to capture him :( .
12/31/17 UPDATE- Success! After sitting in the freezing temps for about 1 1/2 hours with a long rope tied to the door of a kennel we had success. A trail of fried chicken led the pup into the kennel. We pulled the rope and the door slammed. The puppy screamed bloody murder until we were able to lock it secure and throw a blanket over the top. The blanket made him feel secure, like he was hiding.
ALL 3 ARE SAFE! Medical for Atticus the GP is covered. Foster mama Anesa could use donations for Cowboy and Foster mama Meagan could use donations for Petey.
COWBOY is going Tuesday to get sedated for an xray, vaccines, heartworm test and possibly go ahead and neuter him since he'll already be out. I can forward vet info to anyone wanting to donate directly to the vet for his medical care otherwise it will all fall on Anesa's generosity.
PETEY is infested with fleas, malnourished, has a skin condition (probably mange), a wound at the base of his skull and cries when you touch his shoulder. :( I can forward vet info to anyone wanting to donate directly to the vet for his medical care otherwise it will all fall on Meagan's generosity.
