I am a stateless and trapped in Thailand without any access to fundamental rights. I need 2,200USD to implement the procedure of tracking down my birth certificate for a Thai citizenship application. It is my only hope to be able to live a free life.

Dear all who belong to at least one country,

My name is A, I am a stateless person who has been living in Thailand for my whole life but I never feel like I am part of this society. I was always looked down upon by others. I am only allowed to stay in 1 province and have to ask for a permission if I want to visit the nearby province, which I am only allowed to leave for 7 days. I can only work in a low paid job and I'm not allowed to travel out of the province in which I work. I cannot own any property, I have no access to any type of social benefits from the government.

I have a dream to live a free life where I can go anywhere I want. I have always wanted to travel outside of this country, even though it is very expensive, but at least I can try if I know that I have the right to do it. However, I am trapped here with my young family, with no rights and no opportunities, and will problably die here without being able to persue any dreams of mine.

There is hope: in the past 4 months, the Thai government announced the new act of regulation to allow any stateless or migrant student who have graduated and were born in Thailand to be able to apply for a Thai citizenship. This gives me a chance, because I went to school and graduated here in Thailand, but I have no birth certificate because I was born in a small remote village far away from this town. Currently I am holding a migrant document that claims I was born in Thailand. It is this which allows me to implement the procedure of tracking down my birth evidence to receive a birth certificate which will allow me to be able to apply to be a Thai citizen.

However, in order to do that, I need a budget to take all of my family back to my hometown, travel to the village to find witnesses of my birth, and take these witnesses to the town, covering for their travel, accommodation and other expenses, which will cost me around 70,000 baht or $2,000. I have been trying to collect this but it is nearly impossible because I am the only one who works while my wife has to take care of our son. All of my minimum wage salary goes towards our rent, bills, food for 3 of us and our son's nappies. The deadline for this law act is the end of June 2017, therefore I have no choice but to ask for your help, as I cannot raise this sum on my own. If you are able to donate a few dollars, it will really help me and my family to be free. I want to live a life as a free man and be able to pay back to my society. I will never forget the kindness and generosity of those who are willing to help drag me out of this miserable life. With this freedom, I will make sure that I will help other vulnerable people in my society.
