Seeking Human Kindness
Hi my name is Hannah Riess and I am just now entering my last semester here at the University of Missouri - Columbia, and before I leave I want to shake the world a little. When visiting Washington D.C. last winter, I saw homeless person after homeless person as we were walking through the city. I decided to buy about a dozen hot dogs from a street vendor and offer them to those that I saw on the streets. The amount of gratitude that I saw in one man's eyes in particlular made me realize that I want to do all that I can to help the homeless more than just buying them a hot dog. Through my life I have seen too many moments of "ugly" and "bad" in this world and I am ready to put something "good" back.
My Capstone class this semester is allowing me to make this dream a reality. Myself and five other students are going to be orchestrating an event from start to finish that we hope to give basic necessity items to those who need it in our community in late March/early April 2016.
With your help we should be able to accomplish our goal. Your donations will allow us to accommodate the homeless people of Columbia with warmer clothes, enough toiletries to fill a backpack, and many more items. If there is any remaining donated money following this event, we will give back to the community through donations to different local homeless shelters. The sky is truly the limit!
