Please help me. Kelly is a 16 year old boy that has Down Syndrome, he has ASD, Holes in his heart, and WPW and is need to have a catheter surgically (a cardiac ablation) put into his heart to get it to pump and flow blood right if this fails we have to get a pacemaker. Im only asking for enough money to make it from El Dorado KS to Kansas City, MO and to get a cheap hotel room! And food for us... Please help me. We just lost my mother due to heart failure October 2013... I do NOT want to lose my baby brother! We recently found out that people with other handicap problems are known to stay up 4 days for recovery. April 28th, 29th and 30th will be the appointments to figure out if this is the only way to help him. The procedure takes 4 hours or longer. He is known to die on the operating table. A simple TNA took 15 days in ICU before he got to come home. So please help as much as you can so we can fix this problem now before he dies of sudden cardiac death. There is a lot of confusion going on. Nobody in Kansas will touch him. Thats a fact we have tried, and heres the reason. He's had to many complications in the past, the one pathway is too close to the main conductor to his heart. and he has ASD (Atrial Septal Defect) holes in his heart . Another confusion is if you googled the procedure you say that its an outpatient. you're right. but with Kelly being handicap, its going to take longer for him to heal. And if this procedure doesn't work by going through his groin arm and neck area they have to open his chest up. Now if all this goes good it might just be a over night stay, or it may take longer. We are unsure this is what the doctor told me expect a 3-4 day stay for recovery. Ronald McDonald's house said they could get us a room for the day before and the day of the surgery but cannot guarantee the whole time. So we have 2 nights! Which is progress! Another thing people are confused about. Insurance is unsure if they can pay for it because it is "out of state" and they don't really understand that people in the state will not touch him.
What is WPW?
Wolff‑Parkinson‑White syndrome is a heart condition in which there is an abnormal extra electrical pathway of the heart. The condition can lead to episodes of rapid heart rate (tachycardia).
What is ASD?
Atrial septal defect is a form of a congenital heart defect that enables blood flow between two compartments of the heart called the left and right atria. Normally, the right and left atria are separated by a septum called the interatrial septum. If this septum is defective or absent, then oxygen-rich blood can flow directly from the left side of the heart to mix with the oxygen-poor blood in the right side of the heart, or vice versa. This can lead to lower-than-normal oxygen levels in the arterial blood that supplies the brain, organs, and tissues
