Thirteen years ago, I spent my Christmas as a patient in the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's pediatric intensive care unit, the left side of my body completely paralyzed thanks to a brain injury requiring surgery. Christmas in a hospital bed is a terribly lonely place, but I found happiness not only in friends and family, but in the simple Christmas gifts donated by strangers to the patients in the ICU. Every year since, I've gone back during the holidays to drop off stuffed animals for the children spending what's supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year in a hospital bed. It's funny how the smallest token lifted my spirits incredibly, and I've long hoped it's done the same for whoever's received the gifts (Pictures).

This year, I'm hoping my social media friends and family will join me in giving the gift of hope and caring to those who truly need it. I'm planning to go back to CHOP to donate stuffed animals on Sunday December 21st. If you would like to donate any amount, it would be a wonderful thing. Honestly, even a $1 donation can purchase a little toy that could make a family's Christmas morning a bit brighter.
