Hi.

I think some but not all of my friends and family know that I was given my stepmom's unused electric wheelchair in August 2023 to help me get around my building, take out the trash, go to doctor appointments, etc. It has really helped a lot for me to even be able to cook for myself to some degree. Lately, I noticed it hasn't been holding a charge for very long, even after fully charging for 12-14 hours. On Tuesday night, as I was in my tiny galley kitchen to make dinner, it suddenly died on me (luckily in an orientation that allowed me to get out of the chair with some difficulty and make it to my walker, or I would've really been in a fix!). It has been stuck there since then. (Thankfully, it doesn't block the fridge, but it does block access to the microwave, stove and toaster oven. I have limited access to the sink. Because of my visual impairment and some lack of strength in my hands due to arthritis, I haven't been able to find or use whatever it is that lets you move the chair without battery power.)

I need a service call to my apartment and that costs $125 an hour, plus $499 + tax for the batteries, and possibly $50 for a new charger (there was an electrical burning smell coming from the charger the last time I charged the chair in the livin room, but not when I charged it in the kitchen after it died on me). I may be able to get the batteries online, but only after my family is back from their week-long Labor Day camping trip in order to handle to weight of any delivered batteries, so I think I have to go with the service company's batteries. I have a little money saved up from my birthday, but most of it went toward the new cell phone +required accessories after my old phone gave up the ghost. There were also other expenses that come around yearly in September that have to be paid. So, just for the wheelchair fix, I really need help.
