🌱 Help Us Grow the Akeriau Green Village Initiative: Empowering Youth, Building Futures 🌱

We’ve come a long way — and with your help, we’re just getting started.

One year ago, we stood on the red earth of Akeriau, a sub-county in North Eastern Uganda. We were full of hope. We had a vision to grow a grassroots initiative that empowers youth through practical skills, climate action, and sustainable economic opportunities — with a strong focus on including everyone, especially women and others who face barriers to opportunity. Today, that vision is growing fast!

With the support of the community in Akeriau, we’ve launched:

• Tailoring classes with 34 young women currently enrolled
• Hairdressing training with 14 young women currently enrolled
• Electricity installed at our community hub
• Four sewing machines (two newly acquired!)

🌾 What’s Next? With Your Help, We’ll:

👗 Expand the Tailoring Program

• Reach our goal of 10 sewing machines
• Equip students with materials to sew school uniforms
• Launch a new project: sewing reusable menstrual pads for women in the village - not having access to menstrual products is a huge barrier for daily participation in school, work, and community life.

💻 Launch ICT Skills Training for Youth

• Start computer skills classes — a high-demand among young people, especially men
• Fund used laptops for training
• Strengthen youth-led village savings groups for financial literacy and resilience

🌳 Invest in Climate-Action Farming

• Purchase tree seedlings and tools for the next planting season
• Support youth to learn agroforestry, food security, and sustainable land use - helping the community adapt to climate change and build long-term resilience, inter generationally. We’re doing this by supporting dialogue and collaboration between community elders who often own and farm the land and youth who are becoming active agents of change through sustainable farming. 
• Turn our approach in Akeriau into a model Green Village for Uganda

Why This Matters

In rural Uganda, many young people, especially girls, face limited opportunities. Climate change, unemployment, and lack of access to education are daily realities. But in Akeriau, we’re trying our best to flip the narrative with simple, sustainable solutions.

We believe the people who face the biggest challenges are the ones who hold the solutions. That’s why everything we do is community-led. We work directly with elders, parents, youth, and volunteers to co-create a future that is sustainable, just, and full of possibility.
