Last night, my home in Ubud was broken into. I arrived after midnight to find my door open, my altar destroyed, and almost everything of value taken. The house was completely trashed—my clothes and books were scattered across the floor, closet doors left wide open, and drawers emptied out. They not only broke my altar but also tore up envelopes containing letters from my clients, likely searching for money or anything of value. The whole experience has been shocking and heartbreaking.

What shocked me the most was that they took my brand photography equipment, gear I had just bought 10 days ago after saving for more than three years 😖. My equipment included a Sony A7IV camera, three brand new lenses, professional memory cards, batteries, and other top-quality accessories—everything I needed for my creative work and future projects.

They stole all my savings in cash—years of hard work from the sessions I’ve given. They also took half of the money I had collected over the last five years from selling my postcards. It was a lot of money, and losing it has been devastating. Along with that, they took some electronics, clothes, etc.

The total loss amounts to around $10,000. This wasn’t just gear or money; it represented years of hard work, plans, and dreams. Losing what took so long to build feels like losing a part of myself.

This morning, I spoke with my landlord and learned that another house nearby was also robbed last night. According to her, this might be related to a pattern of theft that sometimes happens around this time of year. With Ramadan approaching on the 28th of February, it’s said that some construction workers from Java may steal and return home, never coming back. While we can’t be sure, this explanation seems likely.

After the robbery, several friends reached out to me, offering emotional and financial support. Many of them recommended starting a fundraiser and told me they would be happy to contribute. So, I decided to do it.
