On the 6th November 2014 Jen put her 5 month old baby daughter down for her afternoon sleep and went to build a toy train track with her 4year old son. She heard a noise from the porch and on investigation realised it was her fire alarm. She went out to the glass porch door and noticed that a fire had started there, it was roaring and forming balls of flames in front of the doors. She screamed out at her 4 year old son to get out of the house, she then ran through the house to get her baby daughter and get them both to safety whilst at the same time calling the fire brigade. She tried to get back into the house to save the family’s two dogs which were still in the house but the flames had taken over and things had started to explode. She went back outside and grabbed her children and tried to get to the far side of the house and get the dogs out that way, but it was too late, the porch had now become engulfed by flames and all she could do was listen to the dogs yelping, heartbreaking. The fire engines took around 20 minutes to get there as she lives in a rural location. By this time the house was unrecognisable.
The Clees’ lived in a 40ft by 14ft Park Home and it was their home for 3 years. Their plans were to obtain permanent planning permission eventually, rather than the temporary permission they had so they could build a home on their land, they have horses, livestock and chickens on their land to look after daily.
As Jen and her children had to leave with incredible speed, they left with nothing, no shoes (on anyone), no coats, car keys no time to pick anything up at all. The Clee family within 10 minutes had lost everything, their whole life gone up in smoke. They have lost all documents including their marriage certificate, bank cards, baby photos wedding rings, all personal effects, the list is endless….
Jen’s husband James was working in Somerset that day. As he is an Equine Dentist his job that day had required him to travel, so Jen was at home alone with her two children.
Unfortunately, and (in Jen’s own words) stupidly they had no insurance, so when I say they have ended up with nothing, they really have.
Jen and James’ community have come together and helped them out with clothes for them and the children, and with toys, some of which Jen and James used for Christmas presents for the children. They have received a lot of household items too but sometimes a financial gesture can be more helpful and then it can be put towards things that need attention, things that they can decide would be most useful to them.
We have therefore set up this site to ask that if you are in a position to be able, and be kind enough, to make a financial gesture to help this loving family out, to help them try and restore what they had and to help them get back on their feet and start again. Any contribution would most gratefully received and appreciated from the bottom of their hearts. This is not something which is asked for lightly as they are both proud upstanding people but at these very difficult times we all sometimes need to reach out and ask for help and so we do now.
With thanks in advance
