One late night I was out on the deck shinning all the animals making sure everyone was okay, like I always do. The night did seem a bit quieter than most, but didn’t pay no mind. I usually walk the grounds but tonight I didn’t feel well and did my checks from the front and back deck. When I shined off the front deck 20-30 feet in front of me was the biggest cat I had ever seen in my life! A cougar standing right there looking at me, he was not scared in any way. I tried to scare him off but it never fazed him. I watched this cougar stalk my front yard for 1 and a half hours! He was clearly not hunting any of my animals but wanted something in my front pasture. 2 of the resident horses here at KARES took it upon themselves to defend our rescue, and charged the cougar, and kept him at bay for the remainder of the night. I have sense seen his tracks daily, including 3 other large cats. One is bigger than the cougar tracks, and the other 2 are smaller. So we have 4 different types of large cats prowling our rescue!! We also noticed bear tracks right by our house! I am asking for help from all of you for more hot wire boxes so we can hot wire the pig’s pen and the goat’s pen so no cats can get in there and eat them. We have plenty of clips, and wire for the pens. And we also are asking for a few game cameras to set up around the horses; so we know what is coming into their pasture at night, and see if any of the smaller animals here are being hunted by these predators. We have worked too hard to get these animals well again after the abuse and neglect they have suffered, and I need to make sure these animals remain safe! We are also looking for a donkey to put out to pasture to keep it safer for everyone that calls KARES home!
