Isabelle Carrier hasn't added a story.
My name is Isabelle Carrier and I’m a speed skater. My ultimate goal:
the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
Born and raised in Quebec, I started skating at the age of
three. I decided to start speed skating as I saw my
older brother try to improve his skating, as he was a hockey player.
My two sisters and I ended up joining him and it was a family outing
every practice, as our mother was our coach. As of today, I’m the only
one still skating. I moved to Montreal at the age of twelve so I could
train with the best skaters in Canada and skaters with similar goals.
Six months after winning the Canadian Championship in 2009, someone
tried to pass me during a race and her skate cut my groin. This injury
was a huge step back for me and I struggled, as the fear of injury was
on my mind. I still managed to qualify for the 2011 Canada Games in
Halifax, although this time in long track speed skating. At the games
I won a silver medal in the team pursuit event and ranked top
10 in every distance.
I moved to Calgary in September 2013 to be able to train with
the top class athletes and coaches. The fees for top class coaching,
weight room access, ice access and facility access is $4000.00 a
season. I have worked full time the last year just to be able to cover
these fees. For an athlete training 30 hours a week, having to work
20-25 hours a week is really exhausting, especially when you add in
school. In addition, the $4000 fees just cover the
training. We still have to come up with money to pay for our races and
travel costs. I am trying to find sponsors this year so I can focus on
my training with my goal in mind. Looking at it realistically, I don’t
have the energy to perform to my highest potential at the moment. I
really want to be able to skate to my highest potential, which I
haven’t been able to achieve in the last couple years. I am and always
have been willing to do whatever it takes to get where I want to go.
I’ve had a taste of what it felt like to be the best in Canada. I want
to have that feeling again. I am looking for support so I’m able to
focus not only on the thing I love most, but on school as well. You
can donate, give and support me in many ways.
- Season fees: $4000.00 (Coaching, ice, weights and Oval access)
- Race fees: $25 every Single Distance (4 total) + $150 (Summerfest/Winterfest) + $100 every Canadian Team Selections (3 total)
- Travel expenses: Next year calendar is not yet available but we usually travel to Montreal twice a year which is around $1200 ($600 each time). (Mandatory races because they are Canadian ranking meets)(Aeroplan donations can be made)
- Supplements expenses: (Protein powder, recovery drinks to ensure our body performs/recorvers the way it would)
If you are wondering how to help, you can contact me via email isacar92@hotmail.com or you can give me a call 403-463-0789. If you have any other ideas, you are more than welcome to let me know. I am always looking to improve. Until then, I will continue to do the best that I can, every morning, day and night and will not let you down.
Thank you for reading,
Yours faithfully,
Isabelle Carrier
