At Sutter Buttes Working Dog, our Mission is multi-fold.

First, we start with rescuing German Shepherd Dogs from high kill shelters to give them a second chance for a happy life.

Second, we immediately address any medical concerns and work on building trust & forming a bond which helps to heal the fear & uncertainty in the mind. This includes learning house manners and focus, the foundation to all training.

Next, we start to evaluate the dogs by starting them off in training in obedience & tracking and exposing them to unfamiliar footings, farm equipment and people as well as testing prey, ball & hunt drive.

By following the above steps, we are able to determine the appropriate placement for our rescues using hands on experience. Some are available for loving families with children that will adore them, some for a more rigorous working life with Law Enforcement.

Above all, we are determined to place the right dog, in the right home for lasting happiness for all!
General Information
We are a small group of former professional German Shepherd Dog trainers and handlers, dedicated to saving, rehabilitating and rehoming as many of the truly wonderful dogs pouring into kill shelters due to the dismal economy as possible. Its a daunting task that requires good relations with other, like-minded rescue groups and a nation-wide network of devout GSD enthusiasts. We are not yet approved as a 501c3 non-profit, exist at the pleasure of our donors.
