Hello, my name is  Dr Sunny Sandhu aka Bhoomitra (Friends of Earth). I am a medical doctor, musician, musictherapist, filmmaker and environmentalist originally from Tarn Taran, Punjab, India. Since2011, I have been working for the conservation ofRiver Dolphins and traditional boats called Beda in the Beas River.  Since 2014 I have been living in France and travel every year to Punjab in February to organise the festival for River dolphins Bulanaji. and Bedas. 

 I work with cooperation of boatmen- Malah, civil society, ngos, schools, artists,organic farmers, ecologist etc to create Musical Journeys in River Beas called BedaYatra to highlight the ancient boating traditions and ecological beauty of Punjab River's . Every year we organise a one day celebration on 2nd February- World Wetlands Day in Harike wetlands and Karmuwala village. For many it's first time experiencing the beauty of Punjab rivers and is a lifechanging mental healing experience.

This years program hosted great rudraveena player Sharada Mushti and Mridangam player Kumbakonam swaminatham. It was followed by a 7 day 100 km walk upstream along the River Beas with Bageshwar Singh from NGO Pahal. This event and part of journey was documented by French Filmmaker Roma Delalande. We were able to document the presence of last 2 river dolphins still present in the River Beas. There are critical challenges to the river system which can only be addressed with increased awareness and cooperation of the society at large.

The 30 minute film BEDA YATRA is ready and now we wish to start distribution of this film to various film festivals and organising screening in various schools and colleges in Punjab. To facilitate this process I am starting this fundraising campaign. Working together we can all go much far.

Bonjour, je suis le Dr Sunny Sandhu, alias Bhoomitra. Je suis médecin, musicien, musicothérapeute, cinéaste et écologiste, originaire de Tarn Taran, au Pendjab, en Inde. Depuis 2011, je travaille à la conservation des dauphins de rivière et des bateaux traditionnels appelés « beda » sur la rivière Beas.

Je collabore avec des bateliers, la société civile, des ONG, des écoles, des artistes, des écologistes, etc., pour créer des voyages musicaux sur la rivière, appelés « Beda Yatra », afin de mettre en valeur les traditions nautiques ancestrales et la beauté écologique des rivières du Pendjab. Chaque année, le 2 février, nous organisons une journée de célébration de la Journée mondiale des zones humides dans les zones humides d'Harike et le village de Karmuwala. Pour beaucoup, c'est une première découverte de la beauté des rivières du Pendjab et une expérience de guérison transformatrice.

Le programme de cette année a accueilli la grande joueuse de rudraveena Sharada Mushti et le joueur de mridangam Kumbakonam Swaminatham. S'en est suivie une marche de 7 jours et 100 km en amont de la rivière Beas avec Bageshwar Singh de l'ONG Pahal. Cet événement, ainsi qu'une partie du voyage, a été filmé par la réalisatrice française Roma Delalande. Nous avons pu filmer les deux dauphins de rivière encore présents dans la Beas. L'écosystème fluvial est confronté à des défis majeurs qui ne pourront être relevés qu'avec une sensibilisation accrue.

Le film BEDA YATRA est prêt et nous souhaitons maintenant le diffuser dans différents festivals de cinéma et organiser des projections dans les écoles et les universités du Pendjab. Afin de faciliter ce processus, je lance cette campagne de financement participatif. Ensemble, nous pouvons aller loin. Tous les contributeurs recevront un lien pour visionner le film en famille.
