Nancy Lane is the mother of Hope Lane and Hu-Mom to Kosa the Corgi. Kosa has been a client of Bandit’s BandAid as he has gone through his journey dealing with Degenerative Myelopathy. And Nancy has been going through her own medical journey, becoming disabled and bedridden. (Please note the photo of Nancy was taken before she became fully disabled, as there are no photos since then.)



Hope has become Nancy’s full-time care giver for the past 12 years. As such the State of Delaware gives her just $79 a month, and they otherwise live on Nancy’s Social Security payments, and Medicare for Nancy’s healthcare. Nancy does not qualify for State Medicaid because of the way they calculate income, so anything medically that is not covered by Medicare (including medical supplies and equipment) must be paid out of pocket. 



Hope has thoroughly researched all of the possible government and nonprofit assistance programs for both seniors and the disabled. Unfortunately they are very limited in her state and what few programs are out there are overwhelmed and have lengthy waiting lists.

Fortunately Nancy and Hope live in their family home which has been paid for and they generally are able to make it through with the basic necessities of life. But there are some basic out of pocket medical supplies that have become beyond the capacity of their incomes to provide. And hope has exhausted all available options to cover the costs.

Hope, in addition to caring for her Mom, has been a tireless supporter of rescue and transport efforts for all breeds of dogs. She also assists with the fundraising efforts of Bandit’s BandAid, sharing our fundraisers, finding wonderful items for our auctions etc. And now, begrudgingly, she is letting us give a little back and provide some help to the person she cares about the most, her Mother.

Hope puts in a large order of medical supplies quarterly, when she is able to find them on sale through Amazon, Walgreens and other suppliers. Each order runs approximately $360, so her annual cost is about $1,500, which is the goal of this fundraiser. Her next order needs to go in at the end of this month.

It took a lot of convincing before Hope would allow me to put up this fundraiser, because that is the kind of person she is. She is always there to help others, but does not want to ask for help herself. But I reminded her that this is for her Mom, and I would do the same for my Mother too!
