Gunner Needs you
It has taken us most of the afternoon to absorb the extreme abuse
Gunner has endured. To see the damage done to his poor body made our
heart ache and the tears fell...hard.
Gunner was sedated today for more xrays, this time to xray his
pelvis as the doctor felt something was off, we should have their
findings tomorrow. While under, they were able to get a detailed
exam on Gunner without causing him any pain.
We won't share many of the photos but this one as they are far
too graphic, but will share what is going on and his treatment plan.
Gunner was brutally beaten and has bruises (like in this photo)
and swelling covering his entire body. In several areas, whatever he
was beaten with, cut deep into his skin leaving large open wounds.
They will clean these out thoroughly while he's under and stitch him
up...one may need a drain tube?? We'll know better when they get in there.
Gunner may lose his left front leg unfortunately. The bullets
shattered all the bones causing so much damage it may be to hard to
repair. His right front leg has damage as well from a fragment of
bullet but not nearly as severe as the left leg.
As if all this isn't bad enough, Gunner will need to have part of
his back left paws amputated as well. His paw is cut open to the
bone with extensive damage to the bones and tissue. Three toes will
be removed that can't be saved. Hopefully when they get in there
they don't find more damage that will cause him to lose more.
We deal with a lot of neglect and abuse here, but this...this is
by far one of the cruelest things we have ever seen a dog put through.
Gunner is being kept very comfortable with pain meds and a cushy
bed in one of the doctors offices until his surgery.
We have an orthopedic surgeon in with Gunner now. We are trying
hard to make sure Gunner as the possible chances of a positive
recovery with minimal long term issues. In order to give Gunner the
care he needs, we need your help. Can you help Gunner get a second
chance and show him the kindness he's never known?
