Hello, my name is Vyvyan (Amanda) Becher. I am 41 years old and currently reside in San Bernadino. I grew up in OC and lived in the bay area for 16 years.
It is very difficult for me to ask for help, I usually can take care of myself.
On August 8th, 2018, I was involved in a extremely serious rollover crash that almost killed me and one other, and seriously injured a few other passengers. I had to be airlifted twice, and suffered the following injuries: 13 broken vertebrae in my back and neck, 3 broken ribs, a brain bleed, TBI, almost lost my left eye, damaged vertebral artery, massive dental work damage/broke a false tooth and caused bone loss death to two others, the impact of the roof caving in on me and shoving me out the back window caused a curve in my spine, making one leg now longer than the other. I was in the body brace you see above for 4 months under 24/7 care, which did help save me from having to get back surgery. I still will most likely need neck surgery, there is a missing disc. I am doing better than I was a year ago, but still have a long way to go. I cannot lift more than 10/15 pounds, am in constant dull pain, have cognitive issues and difficulty remembering things. I used to work in the service industry for 20+ years, which I am no longer able to do, due to the injuries I sustained.
I had applied for disability because my state disability was running out, I found out in 2019 that they denied my claim. They alleged that I can lift 50 pounds occasionally, and 25 pounds frequently and that TBI/cognitive functions were fine for work. I was told I could not reopen the case unless I had new and/or worsening symptoms. In April 2020, I had a post traumatic seizure directly related to the crash and have been on medication for it ever since. They also diagnosed me with BPD and cPTSD around the same time. They discovered a brain malformation birth defect that was exasperated by the car crash, but that "doesn't count" as a disability. I have no idea how long this appeal process will take, but I've been looking for lawyers to help and having no success there either.
I will be out of money completely on January 1st, the last of my finances will be exhausted and I will have 30 days to move.
I feel like a bum asking for money from strangers on the internet, but I am out of options and time. I am in need of major dental work, PT/spinal reconditioning therapy, mental health therapy...on top of my normal rent, bills, debts. I also found out that the neck surgery I will eventually need is 50k and not covered by any insurance company in the US. Healthcare, more like wealthcare.
I just need help to pay the rent/bills while I try to "prove" that almost dying in a car crash and suffering multiple serious injuries, does in fact count as disabilities and they have just gotten worse over time. I'm at the end of my rope.
Thank you in advance for any help and support you may be able to spare.
