Meet Yoda. Yoda came into the rescue almost six yrs ago. He came in with three other horses. All four were in very poor health physically. Yoda was in very poor mental health. EVERYTHING scared him. The wind, his shadow, the cars driving by, birds. Everything, and especially men. The first few months, while he was allowed to just be a horse and get back some of his health, he would just stand in the back ground. You could see his eye whites, from fear. If the vet came, he had to be drugged, if the farrier came, he had to be drugged. Finally he came up to me and I told him I promise you will never be neglected and abused again. He started to relax a bit. After his other horse mates that came in with him had been rehabbed, and rehomed, l still could not touch him. I at that time, told him he would never leave the rescue. He would be what I called a lifer. He seemed to listen and understand. Might have just been the tone of my voice, but I actually seen a spark of life in his eyes. Today almost 6 yrs later, we still are learning trust. He knows he will never go hungry, will never be beat by a two by four again.

To all those that have followed the rescue through the years, know Yoda. have met Yoda, and have seen the change. Last week the farrier came out, and this is what happened. Yoda stood there with the lead line draped over his neck. Notice his eyes, there are no whites showing. Fear is leaving his thoughts. Our farrier is very patient and kind and I know this helps, BUT he is a man, and Yoda just standing there, not being tied, and letting a man trim his feet is such an improvement. Yoda will never be rehomed, due to my promise and his trust in me enough to continue to let me work with him. His mind is slowly relaxing. Things still scare him, but not as much.
