Most people know how to lose weight without dieting, only they don’t believe that can do it! If you have read an earlier post relating to the weight loss equation (if calories used are greater than calories eaten then you will lose weight) then you will understand this.
It is true: if you use up more calories than you eat then you will lose weight. Calories are expended through a combination of your natural metabolism and exercise. If do not consume enough to meet that need, then your body has to find the extra energy from somewhere.
That somewhere is your long-term energy store – or your fat. That’s what fat is: a store of energy (or calories) to be used when you need it.
If you are eating fine but want to learn how to lose weight, then you don’t have to go hunting for the most appropriate diet.
You can simply eat less of what you are eating now and either your rate of weight increase will slow down or you will lose weight.
If the former, then you are either eating too much now or are not exercising enough. Don’t blame hormones unless you have been properly diagnosed with a hormone problem by a specialist.
An underactive thyroid gland, for example, can cause your metabolism to slow down and your natural rate of calorie expenditure to drop.
Otherwise simply eat less of what you are eating, switch sweet foods for savoury or increase your exercise level.
Each of these three will result in you either using up more calories or taking in fewer. It is literally as simple as that.
What Diets Do
Diets do one of three things:
- Reduce your total volume of food intake.
- Reduce your intake of higher-calorie foods and replace it with lower-calorie foods.
- Increase your metabolic rate, or the rate at which you burn calories.
Each of these results in a net reduction in your excess daily calorie consumption. Done properly, you will replace a net calorie excess with a net calorie deficit.
This means that you lose weight because your body will burn fat to make up the deficit.
How to Lose Weight: Energy in < Energy out
Keep in mind everything you have read on this site. The only reason you gain weight is because on balance you are not using up all the calories you consume each day.
Start using more calories than you consume and you are sure to lose weight.
Your metabolism will first burn off all your fat to make up the energy deficit, and then start converting your muscle protein to amino acids and fats.
You needn’t go that far – stop once you have reached an ideal weight, and go back to a balanced diet where energy in = energy out.
That is the healthy way how to lose weight without dieting.
The ideal way is balance a reduction in high-calorie foods with exercise.
It works best when you exercise those areas of your body where most fat is stored – usually the belly or abdomen, thighs, buttocks and upper body.
Don't take diet pills like raspberry ketone or other supplements.
Eat fewer carbohydrates, oils and fats and exercise these areas of your body and you will lose weight where you need to.
