I have written a brief book which details my 80-year old mother’s life story. The book describes how she fled in 1948 from her birthplace of Haifa, Palestine to Iraq when she was a child, and survived six different wars. The book also describes her life in Iraq, and how she fled in 2006 from Iraq to the Syrian border (when America was at war with Iraq). She lived in refugee camps in Syria for about 6 years. When the civil war started in Syria, the government attacked the refugee camp she was living in, and she was forced to flee to Turkey because of this civil war. My mother, at age 80, along with my nephew, struggled walking through the night and in thick, heavy mud for six long hours, until they reached the Turkish border. My mother resided in Turkey while awaiting resettlement to the United States, and happy that she is finally here! Soon after my mother arrived in the US, the Irish International Immigrant Center (Boston, MA) were wonderful and threw an event welcoming my mother. They were also kind enough to have me speak and make a presentation for my mother at this event.

Now that you have some background information, my purpose for this fundraiser is that I would like to publish this book in both Arabic and English text, and need funds to cover the cost of translation and publishing. The process of getting the book translated, along with finding a good publisher and finally getting the book published, should take approximately one year to complete.
