Help Give Meatball a Chance!
Meatball is approximately 3-5 years old and was rescued from NYC Death Row in March 2014. He was rescued with less than 1 minute to spare. When Meatball arrived from NYC he showed extremely high levels of anxiety and seemed to have never experienced the human interaction of a kind word or a simple touch. My husband and I placed him into a boarding facility immediately because there was no foster home available. While we visited him and had support of many rescue friends; most feared him. He was extremely toy & food possessive and it would take a lot of distraction to get him from a jolly ball. He spent 5 months in boarding.
Starting June, he moved into our foster room, which is a refurbished attached garage. We have made this his place providing him with a toddler bed, crate and pen with many toys to keep him as happy as he can be. He gets walks and loves to see my husband! But in the end, he is isolated from the family & it causes a great deal of stress on him.
Meatball has made progress since moving into our home. He is slowly adapting to human interaction and accepting human touch. He is learning to trust my husband and I and will allow us to take a toy off the floor and place his food dish up or down. He is uncertain of other dogs; sometimes does not even notice them while other times gets stressed when they are near by. He has been around our children and has been relaxed at times and other moments he has lunged because of too much rambunctious activity.
We have had several professionals & trainers in the rescue community meet and assess him and all feel he is not fit for a foster or forever home at this time. All agree he is in desperate need of professional help.
Fortunately for us, we have just been informed that he has been accepted into a Boot Camp in Pittsburg Pennsylvania. He will be rehabilitated and learn manners and guidelines to make him a great dog in our community! The program is a minimum of 3 weeks and they will keep him there until they feel 110% confident to send him home. For the human who fosters or adopts him, there will be a “train the trainer” session to maintain consistency & stability for his on-going training in life. This part is critical in Meatball’s new chapter of Life.
We cannot do this program without your help! Meatball cannot go into a home until he is professionally trained. He cannot live in a boarding facility or an isolated room for the rest of his life because it will continue to make him crazy. This Boot Camp course is the last resort and chance of survival.
Please donate anything you can. Share his story. Give Meatball a chance at Life – he deserves it!
