For the past 15 years, I have had the profound privilege of walking alongside this community — as a practitioner of East Asian medicine, as a neighbor, and as a friend. You have shaped me in ways I cannot fully put into words. And now, in one of the most humbling chapters of my life, I find myself turning toward you again.
As many of you know, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Ovarian cancer 6 years ago. What I want you to know first is this: I have met this diagnosis with every tool at my disposal — the wisdom of Western medicine and the deep, ancient knowledge of the Eastern healing traditions I have devoted 25 years of my life to. The integration of both has been, I believe, a significant part of why I am still here, still standing, still grateful.
But resilience has a cost. The financial reality of this journey — the out-of-pocket expenses, the treatments, the months when I simply could not work — has been quietly devastating. My husband and I have exhausted nearly all of our savings. The ground beneath us, once steady, now asks us to trust in something larger than ourselves.
We have done everything right. We have budgeted carefully with the help of a dear friend. We have been intentional and thoughtful. And still, we find ourselves in need of our community's grace — one more time.
You came together for me before, raising over $34,000 with a generosity that left me speechless and deeply moved. I do not take lightly what that meant, or what it costs to ask again.
But here is what I have learned from cancer, from Eastern medicine, from 25 years of sitting with people in their most vulnerable moments: asking for help is not weakness. It is one of the most courageous things a human being can do.
I am also writing to share something I am quietly building from this experience — a vision for accompanying others who are navigating serious illness, particularly those seeking to integrate Western and Eastern approaches to healing. The journey I have walked, difficult as it has been, has given me a depth of understanding I could not have found any other way. I believe I can offer something meaningful to others walking this road — and I am exploring how to shape that into a sustainable form of service.
What I am asking of you today is this: if you feel moved to contribute financially, any amount — truly any amount — will help create the stability my husband and I need to face this uncertain future with courage rather than panic.
And if financial giving is not possible right now, I ask only for your continued friendship, your prayers, and perhaps your help in sharing this with others in our community who may feel called to contribute.
This is not a goodbye letter. It is, in many ways, a love letter — to this community, to the life I am still very much living, and to the belief that none of us were meant to walk our hardest roads alone.
With deep gratitude and enduring love,
Nancy
