Hello! We are Betty (she/her) and Luke (they/them), and our cats are Max (adult fluffy boy) and Lenny (senior tuxedo boy).
We have been through a rollercoaster of trauma throughout our lives, escaping homelessness in October of 2023. We always have been disabled, and always will be. We are trying to sell our vehicle but this is where we are until that happens...
We are also trying to figure out how to get free legal help with our housing situation. The house we're renting (from a Big Name in our town..) has mold problems, bug problems, doesn't have a working AC unit, the wheelchair ramp and porch are falling apart, plumbing and electrical issues, a leaky basement, basement stairs are falling apart, among many other issues.
As disabled individuals, safe shelter is very important, and food and a vehicle are of course necessities. We are trying to work through a lot and trying to keep up with our mental health along with our chronic pain and physical health. This, as well as lacking consistent transportation, leads to us being unable to work a standard job. We both make music, though, and Luke offers music and digital art that you can support with. Luke also has some crochet orders that they haven’t been able to send out since the post office is currently inaccessible.
Betty is often having to walk to get us food and the medicine that helps with our pain, appetite, and mental health. We’ve also been unable to see any sort of doctor over the last couple years, which has taken a major toll. Every bit means a lot more than you may think.
The goal total would cover rent, a cheap
vehicle, and auto insurance. Ideally, we wouldn't be paying for a
house we can't do anything to make better; we'd be able to buy our
own house if we got a decent amount raised (though, that would be a
different fundraiser if at all) This is where mutual aid helps;
because without you, we risk going without our meds, and having to
spend money we don't have to get food delivered to our home so we
can try to avoid putting our lives at risk by driving a vehicle with
unreliable brakes. Every dollar and every share helps.
