Suffering in Silence....Raina's level of abuse has shocked us all
Some of you know that we recently bought a dog off of CraigsList
that was tied down with a heavy chain.
Since buying her we have slowly unfolded a past filed with some
pretty horrific abuses. We knew going in she would most likely have to
deal with a little longer term leg issues, along with the fact she was
emaciated and missing patches of fur. What we just found out is
nothing short of horrific.
Raina has not one, but two severely broken hips. Nobody can believe
it, because she still runs, jumps, plays, and is a completely happy
puppy. She is loving, sweet, and so trusting of people now that she
knows that she is safe and surrounded with love.
We had her scheduled in January for her spay and x-rays on her back
legs but she hit her first spay so it was rescheduled for April. We
weren't really concerned with the rescheduling as she has been a
happy, playful puppy. She was still working on getting strength into
her back legs after living in a kennel before being tied down with
that awful chain.
Recently, it's been noticed, Raina will lose balance of one leg or
fall while playing. It seemed to be happening a little more often so
she was taken into a local vet for x-rays on her legs early. The vet
said she has no idea how this happy go lucky puppy is even walking,
she has the worst set of hips she’s ever seen on a dog. Both of
Raina's hips are completely broken and the growth plates are affected
by the breaks. As you can see the in the attached x-rays, her abusers
caused so much extensive damage....and excruciating pain.
The agonizing pain that this poor girl must have endure in the
hands of those monsters! We are so angry, no dog should have to suffer
this much….thankful now she has found safety and love with all of us
and she feels everyone's love.
We know you want to ask the BIG question question- how did we not
know about this until now? We will answer that- Raina has shown no
signs of pain. She runs, plays, jumps (sometimes Superman style off
the bed) and has been happy as can be other than a little limp in her
walk. Raina saw the rescue vet and an outside vet a couple different
times, and the consensus was muscle weakness due to the past history provided.
She is a strong, resilient puppy and we will help to get her
through this. Raina has several intensive surgeries ahead, we are
working with our orthopedic specialist now to put the best possible
surgical plan in place to help Raina heal. We are looking at 8k-10k
to help put Raina's hips & pelvis back together again and heal her
from all the abuse that she suffered.
