Poor Tanner was found abandoned by the side of the road. Emaciated and dehydrated this poor guy was in dire condition.
Once at SBACC, the staff did all that they could to help stabilize Tanner. Sadly, the care Tanner needed was beyond what the team at the shelter could provide. That’s where the Hope and Second Chances Veterinary Fund (HSCVF) stepped in.
When animals with extreme medical needs are taken in by South Bend Animal Care and Control (SBACC), the shelter staff is often faced with making difficult decisions. Because the funds needed to pay for expensive surgeries and treatments are simply not available, the animals have traditionally been euthanized. Many of these animals would make wonderful, loving pets if only they had access to the medical treatment they need.
That’s where the Hope and Second Chances Veterinary Fund (HSCVF) comes in. The HSCVF was created to give these animals the second chances they deserve. By paying for medical treatment that otherwise would not be available to them, the Fund is saving lives that in the past would have been lost.
Administered by CARE of South Bend (CARE), the HSCVF pays for lifesaving medical treatment for sick and injured animals at SBACC. These animals get the veterinary care they need to get back on their feet, and then are put up for adoption when they are healthy enough to be placed into a permanent home.
Over the years, hundreds of animals at SBACC have received medical treatment paid for by CARE. The HSCVF will greatly enhance CARE’s ability to make a lifesaving difference for animals with some of the greatest medical needs.
Tanner is currently hospitalized. At the shelter he was unable to keep food and liquids down and had an extremely high temperature. He has been stabilized but will remain hospitalized until his temperature returns to normal and he is keeping foods and liquids down. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
If you are able, would you please contribute to help pay for Tanner’s medical care? While some might say, “You can’t save them all”; we are certainly going to try!
Please follow the link below to make a donation. CARE of South Bend is a 501(c)3, not for profit organization. All donations made to CARE of South Bend are tax deductible as allowed by law.

On behalf of Tanner, thank you for your support!
