My name is Matt Kirschner, and 15 years ago, I spent my Christmas as a patient in the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, the left side of my body completely paralyzed thanks to a brain injury.

Every year since, I've gone back during the holidays to drop off stuffed animals for the children spending what's supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year in a hospital bed. Christmas in a hospital bed is a terribly lonely place, but I found happiness not only in friends and family, but in the simple Christmas gifts donated by strangers to the patients in the ICU. It's funny how the smallest token lifted my spirits incredibly, and I've long hoped it's done the same for whoever's received the gifts.

This is the third year I'm opening the toy drive online to my social media friends and family. Last year, your donations were incredibly generous, as we collected $155 in online donations alone (plus tons of toys donated in-person)! Please consider giving the gift of hope and caring to those who truly need it this holiday season. I'm planning to go back to CHOP to donate stuffed animals on Saturday December 19th. If you would like to donate any amount, it would be a wonderful thing. Honestly, even a $1 donation can purchase a little toy that could make a family's Christmas morning a bit brighter.
