Jodi Specter hasn't added a story.
These dogs will leave a lasting mark on us. Their stories shine. They just need another hero to make it happen. We rescued them, with love and compassion. We want their day to come when they find their way home to a forever family. Until then, they need you: their other hero.
These dogs escaped the thunderdome. Sadly, many don't. Shelters have to make difficult decisions every day for who survives. The dogs you see here do not live under fear any more. They have been given life beyond the thunderdome.
Please be their hero and help us raise funds to pay for their care.
These are the gladiators who have survived.
Bowser
Soon after we sprung Bowser from a shelter, he let us know
there were some things going
on with him. He's since been through extensive vet
care for an internal infection affecting his prostate and kidneys.
He's had exploratory surgery, several rounds of antibiotics, and
bloodwork. His medical issues are not yet resolved but we have an
amazing partner in his vet who has been someone to rely on. His care
has cost upwards of $2000 and there is more in the immediate
future. The entire vet practice has treated Bowser as if he was their
own pet. All that plagues him is nothing a year in the tropics will fix.
Taz: At the shelter Taz had a large testicular tumor. He's going to need thyroid and hormone testing along with a full bloodwork panel. He also has masses on his eye and shoulder that need to be tested. For now, he's in a kennel and waiting for a foster home.
Delaney
Our Georgia Peach has been in foster care in Maryland since Jan 2014. She recently tested heartworm positve. This is too common for dogs from the south; they test negative for heartworm in the shelter but months later test positive. Just like our other guy Shakespeare. DeeDee was patiently waiting her forever home then got dealt the blow. On Mar 9 she endured her first heartworm injection like a trooper, knowing something better is out there. Her heartworm treatment will cost about $600.
Sweet Simone: Have you seen our pleas on Facebook to find this girl a foster home? She is a special girl who didn't know what to do with her life. She has a pretty face. Awful pretty. We knew she needed a second chance. That chance depended on a month of professional training and continued training in her foster home. Her training has a price tag of over $800. She's now in a remarkable foster where she is learning to be a "family" dog and that she won't be left behind.
Winston: Oh sweet, ridiculously, handsome Winston. This week he was diagnosed with a torn ACL. He's already handled entropian surgery (turned-in eyelids) and now he needs an ACL repair. These two procedures cost $300 and $1600 respectively.
These are just 5 dogs in our care. We have more. Some have been stuck in kennels while we await a foster home. That's what happened to Tax who had to be boarded two times, for a total of almost $700. There is Murdoch, who just had entropian surgery and was neutered, only after being in quarantine boarding for two weeks. His bills are over $500.
Let's not forget our puppies! We have two litters of pups for a total of 11 puppies and two mamas. Eleven puppies that need their first round of vaccinations. Two mamas that need to be spayed, and one mama (Ginger) who will need heartworm treatment.
Put this all together and we're looking at over $5000 of care.
We took the first step and now we all need to give them back their hero.
You are that hero.
"You've seen it!... You've heard it!... and you're still asking questions? "
I doubt it. All you have to do now is click to donate to this cause and be that hero. "They say people don't believe in heroes anymore." We at ABR don't believe that. We know that together, we can give back their heroes.
Some of Bowser's Vet Bills
Delaney's Heartworm Treatment
Taz & Company's Boarding Bill
Tax's Kennel Bill
Tax, who is recently adopted (yay!), is not an example of the typical rescue dog. We try to minimize a dog's time in boarding but we could not find a foster home for him. He had two stints at the kennel.
