Damien Saffigna, father to three and older brother of internationally-acclaimed surf cinematographer Simon "Shagga" Saffigna, has been suffering from a debilitating illness that has his doctors baffled.
Unsure of whether Damo is suffering from an extreme case of rheumatoid arthritis or Lyme's disease (a tick-borne illness which isn't officially recognised in Australia) Damo has lost the muscletone, strength and ability to readily use his arms – rendering him unable to work or even pick up his children for a hug, and forcing him to give up his trade of stone masonry & close the thriving cafe he ran with his wife.
Without a clear diognisis, Damo has been unable to recieve correct treatment and has exhausted avenues locally available to him. Let's help him get on the road to recovery – this page aims to raise funds to enable Damo to seek out specialist testing to finally gain answers & effective treatment, as well as ease the finacial pressure on his young family.
For those in the Tweed/ Gold Coast region, there will also be a fundraising night – all welcome!

Until recently Damo had been reluctant to seek financial help (he'd often tell his friends who'd suggested a fundraiser "I'm not dying") but having any illness that slowly robs you of quality of life, your ability to look after yourself and those you love would surely take it's toll on anyone, both emotionally and financially. Sometimes we all need a little helping hand, and for Damo that time is now.
