SUPPORT BRAIN-STEM GILOMA CANCER RESEARCH
It all
started when my mother noticed our Bradley foot was starting to turn
in,with a number of times visiting the doctors it was just put down to
a muscle disorder my mum was not convinced at all so she demanded a
second opinion an was referred to alder hey children hospital in
Liverpool.
When the appointment finally arrived Bradley was
taken in for blood tests and MRI scans, a few days had now past and
the turn in his foot was starting to go worse and affect his walking
at this time we received a call to return to the hospital to be told
the results of the tests.
on visiting the hospital my mum and dad were sat down in
a doctors room they were suspicious as there was also a nurse in the
room, it was then they we told Bradley had an inoperable brain tumor
on the brain stem, the doctors said he would not survive the operation
to remove it ,
the nurse which we though tuned out to be
Macmillan cancer support nurse.
As you can imagine utter
devastation words cannot describe what we were just told,
The doctor said the only thing the can do is
radiotherapy to see if the tumor shrinks in size which will relieve
the pressure on the brain stem which was causing Bradley foot to turn
in.
My mum and dad were in tears at this point but they
had to find the courage to ask, with a deep breath mum asked how long
will Bradley live. the doctor replied be cause of the severity of the
tumor and the position we are sorry but can only say 6-12 months
depending if the radio therapy works.
what can you do when your told your 9 year son my little brother is
going to die words cannot ever describe the pain heartache devastation
i also have twin sisters who were to young to realize what was going
on at this time.
we started the radio therapy Bradley was
terrified as he didn't no what was going on we couldn't tell him, you
can not tell your son hes going to die we just told him it was
special tests he had to have.
3 weeks had now past and
thing wasn't getting better,Bradley was taken in for anther scan on
his tumor,
we were told the radiotherapy was not having an affect
and the tumor is aggressive.
Bradley was started on a
course of steroids to try and control the growth of the tumor this
again had little affect.
A week later things went down
hill quickly Bradley took ill the MacMillan nurses came
out.
we were told to make him comfortable as they was nothing they
could do bare in mind this was 5 weeks from finding out Bradley had
this tumor,Bradley was on our couch at home and was in and out of
conciseness but aware we were all here,
We were talking
to him telling him he would be fine, but we know that is not the
case.
I was sat on the sofa comforting him stroking his
head thinking to my self i am going to loose my little
brother,
Bradley was aware something was happening
because while he was on the sofa he said to us i don't want to die, we
all broke down in tears at this point and told not to be stupid your
not going to die.
it didn't seem real and still doesn't
to this day.
Sadly in the early hours the next morning
14/8/99 my little brother lost his fight for life and passed away.
Our Bradley pasts ways 4 days before our mums birthday
19/8
so as you could imagine my mum just cried and cried
two weeks after Bradley passed away my Nan mums mother
also suddenly passed away while we were in Scotland trying to have
time to realize what happed to Bradley, this was just a double
knock, its never sunk in that Nan passed away think this is because we
were still in shock over Bradley
they say time heals
pain, not for our mum dad myself and my sisters not a day goes by when
we don't think about Bradley and wish we could see him
again.
My mother has severe rheumatoid arthritis and also
had 3 hip replacements and 1 wrist replacement now her shoulder and
ankle are deteriorating fast.
We have never asked anyone
for anything and always just managed.
I want the best
medical care for my mum as would anyone
we would like to
raise funds for Alderhey childrens hospital Liverpool and help towards
treatment for my mother,
If any of you kind people help
us raise as much as possible thank so much even if you cannot please
take notice of your children, we have been through such heart ache and
would not wish this on anyone anywhere .
thank you for
reading our story
Bradley Tyrer 02/09/89 to 14/9/99 Rest
in Peace my little Brother
