Since he was six years old, Nyoman Kadi has been learning.
Growing up with his grandparents in Bali, he learned to walk through the forest and feel it. Which plants carry healing energy, which leaves can ease pain, which roots hold medicine that no pharmacy can sell. That knowledge was passed to him with love, and he has carried it carefully ever since.
His dream is to pass it on. Nyoman wants to create a small open school on his property in Klungkung, a place where children and visitors from all over the world can come and learn about herbal medicine, native plants, and our relationship with nature.
But before any of that can happen, he needs water.
There is currently no well on his land. Without water, there is no garden. Without a garden, there is no school. The well is not a small detail. It is the very foundation that makes everything else possible, and right now it doesn't exist.

Why this matters
Across Bali, traditional knowledge about medicinal plants is quietly vanishing. The younger generation is drawn to tourism and business, and who can blame them? But Nyoman worries about what gets lost. For families in rural areas with little money and no easy access to doctors or pharmacies, knowing which plant heals which illness isn't just culture. It's survival.
"I want people to know about natural medicines. In nature, there are so many medicines that can help. But nowadays, not many people know about them."
Nyoman isn't asking for much. He isn't building an empire. He's asking for water, so he can start building a place where knowledge lives on.
